Time management and motivation are kissing cousins. The next time your motivation level dips, get organized starting with your physical surroundings (office space, desk, car, etc.) as a way of getting started again. I have no idea why this works, but it does.

As salespeople, we are pleasers and doers and we have a natural way of saying, “yes” to any and all requests, both external and internal. But this is not mandatory. Every once in a while, it’s appropriate to turn down an opportunity. Not everything is worth your time. As the author Greg McKeown says in his brilliant book, Essentialism, you can do anything, but you can’t do everything. Make better choices.

10. Beat the Clock

I challenge you to try this crazy, counter-intuitive exercise for one week: Commit to leaving the office at 4pm (and I mean REALLY commit). Here’s what happens: As that hard-stop approaches, you will look at your task list and choose the best option. Why? Because you aren’t working indefinitely! You are quitting at 4! You’ll find, as I did, you will make better choices and, second, the things that didn’t get done didn’t really need to get done.
