How to Make a Lifelong Client

You make a sale. Next comes gratitude, perhaps a message to the new client about what else you do, followed by a little celebration and you move on to the next sale. Taking a different path can make that new customer a client for life. Hear how, in this week's Short Attention Span Sales Tip by Bill Farquharson.

Good morning!

Shortly after we open the doors to The Sales Vault, we changed the format of the live workshops we do each week, turning them from talking-head-Death-by-Powerpoint-webinars, to information-sharing workshops. This has allowed everyone to contribute what they know on that particular subject.

For me, it’s had an added benefit: this old dog has learned some new tricks.

A comment was made in one recent workshop that struck me as simple and brilliant, and I wanted to share it as a sales tip. It’s a way to really lock a customer in and make them a lifelong client.

Here’s the thinking…

“When someone places an order with us, we make it a priority to continue to sell to them and get a second order as soon as possible. Then, we kick it into overdrive and shoot for a third. It’s been our experience that when a customer places three orders, they stay with us for life.”

See what I mean? Simple and brilliant.

When a customer places that first order, we show our appreciation and maybe even mention the other products and services we offer. But soon, retention turns to other things as we look to add more new clients. Instead, why not take this advice and keep your sights on going from one order to 2 to 3? That “customer for life” thing sounds pretty enticing, doesn’t it?

You gotta love them new tricks!
