In yesterday’s sales tip, I proclaimed these two books to be major influencers in my life and followed that statement with, “I can’t think of any other book that would be on my Must-Read list”:
- How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie
- Essentialism by Greg McKeown
That statement was true word up until the point when I started writing this blog and realized I had left a critical book off of the list…
The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz had a profound effect on me when I first read it and there is not a day that has gone by since when I have not referred to its simple lessons in every aspect of my life, both work and personal.
According to the lessons in this book, I regularly ask myself:
- Am I being impeccable with my word?
- Am I taking something personally?
- Am I making an assumption?
- Am I doing my best at all times?
Note: For the sake of time and to skip the deeper and more philosophical/spiritual aspects of this book, you can go right to the first agreement and start reading. I wouldn’t want you to judge the value of this book based on the author’s personal belief system.
Like the book itself, I’m going to keep this blog simple in the hopes that you pick up a copy and make this one of your go-to reads (and re-reads!)
After all, there’s a reason why it’s been on the New York Times Bestseller List for the last 15 years. Go on and discover why.
