The Fun Part of Sales

The best part of sales isn't the victory, landing a big fish, or finally getting an appointment with a coveted Buyer, it's something entirely different and completely unexpected...and it's what Bill Farquharson is talking about in this week's Short Attention Span Sales Tip.

Thrilling-Roller-Coaster

Good morning!

This sales tip might be hard for you to hear. Or maybe you’ll hear it, but not believe it. Either way, here we go…

If you are in sales, you need to think of yourself as an entrepreneur. You are automatically creating some thing; in this case, a strong book of business.

As any entrepreneur will tell you, there are major bumps in the road and multiple points along the way where self-doubt is rampant and common. Business is below terrible. It’s anemic. It’s on life-support. Day-after-day becomes week-after-week and “The Doubter” sits on your shoulder and whispers nasty things in your ear.

Can you relate?

Here’s what I want you to understand: This is the fun part.

Wait, what? Fun???

Ask anyone who has broken through and found success to tell their story, and they’ll get all starry-eyed about the salad days. Personally, I vividly recall a night out being one dollar movie night (complete with free parking), a dinner out being a shared meal, and a LOT of scary moments before that first profitable month.

I remember wishing I had been less worried about the future, and that is really the core of my message today: Getting there is all the fun. BEING there, well, it might not be the paradise you think it to be.

Continue to tweak your approach. Continue challenging your message. Don’t ever stop making changes; not only to the process, but also to the finish line. When you look back on your success, these will be seen as good times.

So, along the way, stop, look around, and appreciate the struggles for what they are: A challenge; A puzzle to be solved…

The fun part!
