He is a hand-drawn mischievous little boy, and he nailed sales in one line.
When I had a corkboard in my office and was still getting the daily newspaper in printed format, it was commonplace for me to cut out a comic strip and stick it on the wall. By far, my favorite was Calvin and Hobbes.
One particular entry hit on what I think is the essence of sales:
Calvin is in his front yard manning what appears to be a lemonade stand set up. He is at a table with a sign overhead. Remember how Linus used to be Charlie Brown’s Psychiatrist? Yeah. That.
Anywho…
Calvin sign reads, “A swift kick in the butt: $1.” Hobbes, his real-only-to-Calvin tiger walks over and asks, “How’s business?” to which Calvin replies, “Terrible and I don’t understand it. Everyone needs what I am selling.”
Yup. That’s sales alright.
