Sales Brief

By the time you reach the end of this sentence, your attention span might be challenged. Such is the case with our clients and we need to learn how to use an economy of words when we communicate. With increasing brevity, Bill Farquharson makes the point in this week’s Short Attention Span Sales Tip.

get-to-the-point

Good morning!

If you are feeling as though you have no time for anything, you are not alone. Life is suddenly more complicated than ever. Not only that, the pace of life has increased dramatically.

At the same time, the sheer quantity of content has exploded and is now coming at us through more mediums than ever.

Oh, and then there’s a third factor, that of a reduced attention span.

All of this plays a part in our many challenges as sales people.

I tell you all of this in an effort to make you more mindful of the need to be brief.

Long emails and long, voicemail messages, and even long texts will not be read or listened to. People simply don’t have the time.

Go ahead and write a 200 word email, but summarize it in the first sentence or two. Communicate with the understanding the recipient is skimming.

For example, take this sales tip. Could I have said it in 30 seconds instead of 60?…

Good morning!

Life is busy! We are on the go all day long and information is coming at us from all angles.

Your customer base is under the same assault and you need to be aware of it when you attempt to get their attention. People will not take the time to read a long email or listen to a wordy voicemail.

For example, take this sales tip. Could I have said it in 15 seconds instead of 30?…

Good morning!

The better you are getting your point across using an economy of words, the greater your chance of it being received and acted up.

For example, take this sales tip. Could I have said it in 7.5 seconds instead of 15?…

Good morning!
