Getting away is always a good idea and always worth the effort but it’s never easy to go from 100mph to zero, especially if the trip is as short as a day.
So then how do you steal away and relax QUICKLY!
Living south of Boston, we are roughly 45 minutes from a ferry that can take us to Martha’s Vineyard. In July, my wife and I had a one-day vacation, bombing around the island on rented E-bikes and looking at menus featuring prices no local would pay….
…and trying to leave it all behind.
Sitting on a beach in Chappaquiddick, we were completely detached and 100% shut down from work. Instantly. There was no talk of sales tips or blogs or printing or websites or children. Turns out it’s not that hard, if you know how…and if you do some planning.
If you want to get away… I mean really get away… here’s what you need to do:
- Make a list of the things you need to do before you leave;
- Make a list of the things you need to do when you get back.
What this simple 2 step process does is to get it all out of your head.
It’s a discipline, but if you can leave having done the things on the first list and push away thinking about the things on the second list, you too can sit on a beach, feel the sun on your face and the sand between your toes while saying things like, “Only a tourist would pay $55 for a lobster roll.” And shut down…
… if only for a day.
