I was outside, standing in my driveway when my stepdaughter pulled in. Georgia was home from college just for a night and she popped out of the car wearing her usual sunny smile. We said hello and then she asked about dinner. I told her what I was thinking. She thought that would be a good idea and then added, “Is there anything I can do to help?”
This is so typical of Georgia. While I have never taken her up on her offer,* I so appreciated the gesture. Every time she asks, I think better of her.
Like I was when I came home from school, kids can be selfish. They think the world revolves around them and parents are put on the planet to serve their needs.
Rather like how sales reps think of Production, eh?
As the saying goes, “Nothing happens until a sale is made.” That oft-repeated statement appears to put sales reps at the top of the food chain.
Looking down.
On Production.
Salespeople, take a lesson from Georgia and make the same kind gesture towards Production occasionally by uttering eight words that change everything:
“Is there anything I can do to help?”
The typical outcome: they decline but see you in a different light. Imagine that, you get credit for helping but don’t have to do the work.
Talk about win-win!
