Phone call. Email. Phone call. Voice mail. Email....all prospecting approaches are the same. But inside you is a different message and in this week’s blog, Bill Farquharson encourages you to listen to your inner John Keating and let it out.

We’re often conditioned to conform —

To obey.

Color inside the lines.

Not question authority.

To assume.

— and to be just like everyone else.

The first time I saw the movie, Dead Poets Society, I thought of a man from my childhood named Gene Baney,  a camp counselor who made a lasting impression on me. Gene was my Mr. Keating — the teacher in Dead Poets Society played by Robin Williams. I am forever grateful to him for encouraging me to step out of line, to object, and to stop conforming — just because everyone else does it one way does not mean it’s right. To find my voice and then use it.

Consider your sales approach. Are you following the rules? What could you do differently in order to get someone’s attention?

Think about Warren Werbitt. Amanda Bronowski. Kelly Mallozzi. Deborah Corn.

These thought leaders don’t whisper. They scream.

What message is inside of you?

I dare you to let it out.

You daredevil.

You rebel.

You uniquely successful sales rep.
