I posted this survey question on LinkedIn last week:
If you could go back to the beginning of the year and give yourself one piece of sales advice, which would you choose:
- Make more calls
- Stop procrastinating
- Don’t worry as much
I expected the majority of the votes would be cast on the first two options. I was so convinced of it, In fact, it took me a while to come up with a third choice.
However, when the voting was through, “Don’t worry as much” garnered 7/10 votes.
Here we are in the first week of 2022 with pretty much the same challenges we faced a year ago. The fear factor might be down, but only a tad. Is there still uncertainty? Absolutely. Are the experts sending us mixed messages? Yup.
If that’s the case, let’s assume you are asked this exact same question during the last week of this year, too. Seems to me the results would be identical.
You can’t go back in time and take a 2021 chill pill, but…
You can take this opportunity to calm your nerves by uttering four words and then engaging its advice: Don’t worry as much.
Worry, as my mother often told me, is a waste of energy. I tell my kids, there is nothing to worry about until there is something to worry about.
So, proceed boldly into the new year with the full faith and confidence. Control what you can control and let go of the rest.
And don’t worry ‘bout a ‘ting, cuz every little thing gonna be alright.
