Everyone who is in sales sooner or later will hit the wall. You will burn out and temporarily lose all motivation and passion.
What then?
Most of us will work through it. Our work ethic will take over an extended doing what our brains are telling us to do— stop, rest, regroup, proceed— we will go through the paces until the day is through and then make our way home in the hopes that a good night sleep will snap us out of it.
I am completely, 100% guilty of doing this myself. Coming from a hard-working family, I find it difficult to follow my own advice, but here is what I have found to be the best remedy for the temporary feeling that comes when you just can’t do your job effectively right now…

Recently, I was on a streak of content-creation workdays and I was trying to meet a series of deadlines writing articles, White Papers, blogs, sales tips, columns as well as creating new podcast material. As I approached the end of the list, I was running dry of creativity. So, to remedy the situation, I kicked back, grabbed my new iPad, and spent a few hours reading some of my business favorites. While it was difficult to take the step, the outcome can be summed up in one word: Renewal. Getting away from the office helped. Not having to stare at my task list, too. Revisiting the roots of my motivation got me refocused. Stephen Covey would’ve called this step, “sharpening the saw” and he would be right. Every once in a while you have to stop, back away from the sales desk, and do something completely different. As challenging as it might be for you, it just might be the best use of your time.
