The Sales Vault

A Scientific Approach to AI

Like most of us, blogger Bill Farquharson has been curious about AI and, in particular, if it can be trusted. A few months ago, a scientist came along and pushed him in front of an AI train. In this week's blog, he asks a question about AI and integrity.

AI. You can’t swing a dead cat these days without hearing about the technology some are using, some are ignoring, and everyone is talking about. I hear there are even some columnists dedicating an entire Printing Impressions column to the subject (that of AI, not dead cat-swinging. Although…).

Last fall, I was forced into the AI world by a millenial expert. Dr. Emma Farquharson has grown up in our industry and brought her vast knowledge of AI to my Sales Vault customers to rave reviews. She and I have co-presented several times. My clients and I have been blown away by her ability to explain the complicated in a language even a caveman can understand.

As I am an AI neophyte, I thought I’d get us all some answers…

Bill: “Emma, with a background as a scientist, you know a thing or two about research accuracy. Science is exact and specific. Now, here you are as an AI expert, and I am curious about how the two worlds compare.

For example, I have been impressed with the level of integrity you bring to the AI sales topics you and I co-present. You are very careful to quote sources and not believe everything you uncover. So, here’s my question…

Do different AI sources offer different levels of accuracy and therefore, integrity? I know it’s important to you, but why should it be important to us all?”

Emma: “Well, Bill (can I call you Bill?), the world’s generating content at a pace that’s impossible to keep up with—and not all of it is trustworthy.

That’s why fact-checking tools, like those in Perplexity AI, are more critical than ever. They help cut through the noise, separating solid information from misleading fluff.

AI doesn’t just give you faster answers; it gives you better answers when built with integrity and designed to verify its sources.

In sales, this means AI tools can help you research a prospect or craft the perfect pitch with confidence, ensuring you’re armed with accurate, up-to-date information. It’s like having a personal fact-checker who works at lightning speed.

But here’s the thing…

Not all AI tools are created equal. Just like a shaky foundation can sink a building, a tool without transparency or robust data sources can lead you astray.

That’s why I’m passionate about tools that prioritize accuracy and credibility—they don’t just make our jobs easier; they make them better.

When the world feels overwhelming, AI can be the guide that keeps you on course, helping you rise above the noise with clarity and integrity.

Now that’s a win for all of us.”
