The Sales Vault

Take a Week. Make a Change.

Good morning!

What could you accomplish in five business days? Before you answer that, let me clarify the question: What improvement could you create through 5 days of effort?

A week can seem like an awfully long time. If you are a child, it’s December 18, and you are anxiously awaiting Christmas morning, a week is forever. It can also go by in a flash if, like me, a daughter visits home before returning to China. The week was over in a flash.

In business, a week is all it takes to get something started. To improve yourself. To plant a seed. To change.

I am one of those annoying people who is constantly trying to improve some part of who I am. I once read in Bon Appétit magazine that a mom took her family vegetarian for a week. Figuring that I can do anything for a week, I tried it. Then, I did for another week and then another. Four months later I was still a vegetarian (technically, a pescatarian but whatever).

In the past, you have heard me talk about improving your time management, making the suggestion that for just one week you end every day by making a plan for the next. “Try it for a week,” I told you, “and see what difference it makes.” Did you do it?

There is something in all of us that we wish to change, to improve, to start doing, or to stop doing. What’s yours?

If you need new business, for example, what minimum amount of calls could you commit to making every day for a week?

Or how about staying off of FaceBook for a week and going to visit people?

“I really should…” is the beginning of a sentence that will reveal the change that you could make just a week.

What comes after that, after that first week? Who cares? That’s next week’s problem. For now, just get started on the change you want to make.
