Revisited: You Say You Made a Resolution, Well, You Know…

Short-Attention-Span-Sales-Tip

Good morning!

This Short Attention Span Sales tip is being released on Monday, February 1. Backup a month. It’s New Year’s Day. Do you remember those promises you made, those Resolutions?

How are they going?

I Googled, “What percentage of New Years Resolutions fail?” and got a bevy of answers, all falling between 80 and 92% with a date range of two weeks to one month (meaning that’s how long it took for people to give up).

Do you remember the advice I gave you a month ago? It was my January 4, 2021 SASS tip. The suggestion was, Resolutions fail because they are too farsighted. That is, we make promises without considering how everything changes all around us all the time. Skip a couple days and then a couple more and it’s all too easy to say, “Screw it” and reach for a doughnut.

A far better idea, I offered, was to think in seven day intervals.

Thankfully, life gives us plenty of second chances.

Today being February 1, let’s try some Sales Resolutions again, but this time, give my Jan. 4 sales tip idea a shot….

Finish the sentence, “For the next 7 days, I will…”

Then, seven days from now, check in (you can do this alone or with an accountability buddy) to see how you did and to create new 7 day goals.

By the way, I took my own advice…

Allison and I set 7 day exercise goals for January:
• Week One: Walk every day and do a 10 minute Core workout on Apple’s Fitness+ app;
• Week Two: Back off to a 6/7 day goal;
• Week Three: No goals. We forgot to have that conversation.
• Week Four: Back to 7 days of walk/core.

Results:
• Week One: Perfect record!
• Week Two: Probably did 4/7 days (Sales Vault prep work killed us)
• Week Three: (the one with no goals) Back up to 6/7 days
• Week Four: Perfect again!

I cannot see the end of an unending Resolution. I can, however, envision the next 7 days.

And so can you. So…

Sales Resolutions, take two. Action!

You need this...

Trust me. I'm in Sales.

Everyone is asking where Bill got the T-shirt. Trust him, he's selling it on Amazon!
