And This Time, I Mean It!

2023 seemed so far away, didn’t it? Suddenly, we are making New Year’s Eve plans, frantically calling accountants for advice, looking back on 2022, and thinking about the changes we will make moving forward.

It’s a Woulda-Coulda-Shoulda season.

2023 seemed so far away, didn’t it? Suddenly, we are making New Year’s Eve plans, frantically calling accountants for advice, looking back on 2022, and thinking about the changes we will make moving forward.

All I can recall about being in this same position a year ago was the optimism felt for the world opening up again. The rest of it—all of those promises and goals—is gone from the memory banks (except for “get my golf handicap in the teens…which I did).

Sales people are #1 for making New Year’s resolutions…and #1 for abandoning them by mid-January.

Why?

First, they are too broad: “I want to grow my sales by 25%” is a nice wish, but it will fail without some forethought. Second, they’ll need an action plan to get there, guidance and support, and accountability to make that plan happen.

I got thinking about why sales resolutions fail a couple of weeks ago and what could be done to help and come up with a list of 23 questions to ask before ’23 plans are made (it sounds clever, but if I’m being honest, I just couldn’t come up with 2 more to make it an even 25).

As a year-end gift to you, I held a free webinar on Thursday December 22 where I went over the questions and offered up some ideas and advice. A link to the replay is available here. Have a look. It will cause you to think through your current status before coming up with 2023 goals. Select one of the three options to get the webinar replay and download the 23 questions to ask yourself. As always, Sales Vault members can access the replay and questions here.

Looking back at my 2022? 52 Short Attention Span Sales Tips. 52 blogs. 12 columns for Printing Impressions and 12 articles for print affiliate publications. Another 6 for Image magazine down under. Live presentations. Webinars. Countless phone calls. Dozens of Sales Vault workshops…the list goes on.

My 2022 included a LOT of pushing out content.  I hope it helped.

So, sit with your thoughts this week. Watch the webinar. Ponder the questions. Create a plan for the new year. Then, take a breath and get ready, because in 2023…

“…I’ll make more and better sales calls…”
“…I’ll bring more and better solutions to my customers…”
“…I’ll actively seek out new business…”
“…I’ll service existing clients to the best of my ability…”
“…I’ll show gratitude to my team…”
“…I’ll grow as a sales person, learn from my mistakes, and bring my best self to all of it…

And this time, I mean it!”
