The Sales Challenge Blog

An Important LinkedIn Nuance

LinkedIn's algorithms are closely-guarded secrets. They don't want you to know how to get your Post listed first. What they don't hide are the rules to get a Post punished. In this week's blog, Bill Farquharson shares a key tip.

A key advantage to having tech-savvy children is information like what I am about to deliver. I say that to give credit where credit is due and, in this case, it is due the brilliant Madeline Farquharson.

Like any social media platform, LinkedIn wants you to stay on LinkedIn. Anything you do or suggest which pulls you away is punished by their internal algorithm.

For example, this blog.

We don’t include the link to this blog in the body of the LinkedIn post, and for good reason. Clearly, that indicates to LinkedIn we are trying to pull eyeballs to our website and away from theirs.

That’s not OK with them.

So, my amazing team of Allison and Kati makes sure to deliver just enough of a teaser before including the phrase, “Hit the link in the Comments section below” when they post a Tuesday blog or Wednesday/Thursday comment so as not to get pushed down in the feed. That way, you still get the information you want, but we stay off of LinkedIn’s naughty list.

There is, however, and exception to that rule.

On Mondays, we publish the Short Attention Span Sales Tip, a free LinkedIn newsletter for which you need to subscribe (hint, hint). Since it is created as an Article (a LinkedIn process), we are allowed to include the link in the body of the document and not get downgraded. That’s a good thing for the 2000 people who receive it each week.

This is just one of numerous tricks and hacks to LinkedIn. I thought it might help.

Oh, and one more thing, did you know you can make your profile picture come alive in a Harry Potter kind of way?

That tip and others can be found in this free 30-minute workshop Madeline did for Sales Vault members. Here is the link: https://salesvault.pro/linkedin-workshop-promo/
