Time Management – Winter Edition

I’ve only been drinking beer for about five years. I decided very early that I didn’t care for the taste and never bothered to circle back and try again. I was always jealous of people who would talk about how good a cold brew tastes after a round of golf or mowing the lawn on a hot summer’s day.

After 18 holes at Eastward Ho in Chatham, Massachusetts (right on the elbow of the Cape) with my older brother, I decided to challenge a four decade-old assumption and order a beer.

Am I glad I did! Apparently, things change over the years. Who knew?

Finally, I can take part in the conversation when it comes to things like craft breweries and the difference between American beer and making love in a canoe. Here in Boston, Sam Adams is produced. I’ve come to enjoy their limited edition seasonal brews. In fact, I may or may not have one on my desk as I write these words.

Your time management should change season-to-season as well. Over these next three months, for example, it’s cold outside, too cold for golf or gardening. As such, I work harder now than any other point of the year. Why? So that in the days between Memorial Day and Labor Day I can give myself permission to leave a little early so that I can struggle with the question of using a five iron and going for the green or laying up with a pitching wedge.

Putting in the extra effort now will have an effect on your sales and work/life balance in the months that follow. Whether it’s an hour a day or an hour a week, you will see the fruits of your labor when the flowers and the birds return.

Baby, it’s cold outside. Work harder now.
